If you’ve never heard of these, consider yourself lucky. On the other hand, if you’ve had a run in with these cellulose consuming invaders, you know they are capable of eating you out of house and home!
Colorado is home to three major types of termites; Arid-land Subterranean Termites, Eastern Subterranean Termites and Drywood Termites. The first two species of “subterranean termites” are responsible for the vast majority of the damage across the state. The reason that Drywood Termites aren’t as large of an issue across Colorado, is because they are only found in the Grand Junction area. So for folks around here, that’s like winning an unlucky version of the lottery.
There are clues that will tell if termites are living in your home. You may see saw dust like grains piling up. You may also see damaged wood and in some cases even see live termites. Many times damage can be hidden and not noticed right away.
Treatment measures vary depending on the severity of the infestation. Whether you find an infestation, are unsure if what you are seeing is termite damage or just want to have a professional take a look, remember that Maverick Pest Management can take care of it. Feel free to ask questions or text/email pictures. Whatever the pest control issue, remember, Maverick Pest Management is here to help! (970) 443-4993.
According to the Idaho Department of Agriculture, a new insect was discovered in the summer of 2012. Commonly found in southern Europe, the elm seed bug (ESB) makes its debut in the western United States. Now, five years later, it has settled in Western Colorado.
The ESB does not pose a threat to human health, or damage trees or buildings. However, due to their large numbers and over wintering habits, they can cause a nuisance to your home or business. Much like it’s close relative, the box elder bug, they can cluster on a building’s exterior and even make their way inside.
For control measures make sure all doors, windows and thresholds are sealed. Any small crack is a possible entry point. An exterior perimeter treatment is also a great way to keep them under control. As always giving Maverick Pest Management a call is always a good way to get started. Grand Junction pest control, Maverick Pest Management (970) 443-4993.
